Hi, I'm Aadhit Shanmugam. I design, develop and ship at 5× speed.

I've been designing and building for the web since 2020: co-founding a startup, leading a web team at an ed-tech, and shipping design systems, editors and dashboards along the way.

Right now I work at Orion across the whole stack, from cloud services and data to the apps and internal studios behind smarter sleep.

Experience

  1. Software Engineer at Orion

    2025 – Present

    Orion is where I do my most end-to-end work. I designed the product's MVP, look after its design system, and build the apps and internal tools the company runs on, from the Android app to the command center and every studio in between.

    Product & design

    • Designed the MVP end to end: flows, screens and the visual language the product shipped with
    • Maintain the design system: shared tokens and a Svelte 5 component library, published as a private npm package that every internal studio is built on
    • Keep web, Android and iOS visually in step through the same tokens and patterns

    Internal suites

    • Built the Command Center: the Next.js admin dashboard the team uses to manage devices, customers and firmware
    • Data Studio: dense, fast charts with uPlot over ClickHouse, virtualised tables and map views for exploring sleep and device data
    • Test suite: a studio for planning tests, running them and comparing results over time, localised in English and Chinese
    • Operations suite: day-to-day tooling for support and ops, with role-based access throughout
    • Sales and dev studios on the same component library and shared backend-for-frontend package

    Mobile

    • Built Orion's Android app in React Native (Expo, New Architecture, Hermes, React Compiler), at parity with the iOS app
    • Onboarding, device setup over Bluetooth, mattress controls with optimistic updates, and the Sleep Test patch over NFC
    • Health Connect, push notifications, feature flags with LaunchDarkly and full i18n

    Platform

    • Services on Cloudflare Workers: Durable Objects, Queues, Workflows and Hyperdrive
    • Analytics in ClickHouse; app data in Postgres and Supabase
    • A partner API and MCP servers so tools and AI agents can work with Orion data
    • The web app and the Shopify storefront

  2. Software Engineer at xEnabler

    Front-end engineer across multiple client projects, building responsive, performant apps with React, Next.js, Vue and PHP, Redux Toolkit, React Query and Framer Motion.

    • Accessible, scalable interfaces with Material UI, custom design systems and theme-based styling
    • Locale-based apps with right-to-left layouts and full i18n support
    • Permission-based rendering, dynamic routing and role-based access; complex API work with React Query
    • SEO and performance with Redux Toolkit, React Helmet and tuned CRACO builds

  3. Lead Software Engineer (Web) at Coral Academy

    Led a team of three on the Next.js and Tailwind front-end MVP of an ed-tech platform, building COPPA-compliant learning products with live classes on Zoom Video SDK and Agora.

    • Three in-house npm libraries: a WAI-ARIA component library, a network request handler and a dynamic SVG icon system
    • Live classroom infrastructure on the Zoom Video SDK (media) and Agora (signalling)
    • Owned and rolled out a responsive design system with the design team
    • Next.js and Tailwind architecture tuned for Core Web Vitals, WCAG and SEO

    • Smoke and regression testing of authentication macros to keep releases stable
    • Worked with development and QA teams to find usability issues and verify fixes

    UI design in Figma and Illustrator, and the web app MVP for a forum-based social platform for Tesla owners.

    • Led the MVP design for iOS and web
    • Built a responsive, forum-based social interface where people post and interact within categories
    • Designed a bespoke icon set of every Tesla model so owners can show their car on their profile
